July 5 2026 Gospel Reading and Reflection

7/5/2026 (Sunday) Today’s gospel reading: Matthew 11:25-30

25 At that time Jesus exclaimed: “I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to little ones.
26 Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will.
27 All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.
28 “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”

7/5/2026 (Sunday) Today’s gospel reflection / sermon / homily: Matthew 11:25-30

Life often feels heavy. Responsibilities, worries, disappointments, and expectations can leave us exhausted. In this Gospel reading, Jesus reveals that God’s wisdom is often received not by the proud or self-sufficient, but by those who come with humble and trusting hearts. He also invites weary people to discover a different way of living which is a life marked by peace, trust, and companionship with Him. The word REST can help us remember this beautiful invitation.

R – Receive God’s grace with humility.

God delights in revealing His love to those who approach Him with childlike trust. We do not need to have all the answers or prove our worth before Him. Many people spend their lives trying to earn acceptance, but God’s love is a gift to be received. Humility opens our hearts to His wisdom and allows us to experience His presence. When we admit our need for Him, we discover that we are never alone.

E – Entrust your burdens to Christ.

Everyone carries burdens including family concerns, financial struggles, fears about the future, regrets from the past, or the pressures of daily life. Often, we try to manage everything by ourselves and become overwhelmed. Jesus invites us not to carry these weights alone. Entrusting our worries to Him does not remove every challenge immediately, but it changes how we face them. His strength supports us when our own strength is insufficient. When we place our burdens in His hands, anxiety gives way to hope.

S – Study His way of life.

True peace comes not merely from escaping problems but from learning how to live according to God’s heart. Jesus teaches us gentleness, patience, forgiveness, and trust. The world often values power, status, and endless achievement, but Christ shows that greatness is found in love and service. As we learn from Him each day through prayer, Scripture, and acts of kindness, our hearts become more peaceful. His way does not add unnecessary weight to our lives; instead, it brings balance and purpose.

T – Trust in His promise of peace.

Storms will still come, and difficulties will not disappear overnight. Yet those who walk with Christ can experience an inner peace that circumstances cannot destroy. Trust means believing that He is present even when answers are delayed and that His plans are always guided by love. Peace is not the absence of problems; it is the presence of Christ in the middle of them.

Whenever life becomes overwhelming, remember to REST:

R – Receive God’s grace with humility.
E – Entrust your burdens to Christ.
S – Study His way of life.
T – Trust in His promise of peace.

The world offers temporary relief, but Christ offers lasting rest for the soul. When we walk closely with Him, weary hearts are renewed, burdens become lighter, and peace begins to flourish within us.
