6/13/2026 (Saturday) Today’s Gospel reading: Matthew 5:33-37

Jesus said to his disciples:
33 “You have heard that it was said to your ancestors, Do not take a false oath, but make good to the Lord all that you vow.
34 But I say to you, do not swear at all; not by heaven, for it is God’s throne;
35 nor by the earth, for it is his footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.
36 Do not swear by your head, for you cannot make a single hair white or black.
37 Let your ‘Yes’ mean ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No’ mean ‘No.’ Anything more is from the Evil One.”

>6/13/2026 (Saturday) Today’s Gospel reflection / homily / sermon: Matthew 5:33-37

In today’s Gospel, Jesus teaches the importance of honesty, integrity, and sincerity. He challenges His followers to be people whose words can be trusted without the need for elaborate promises or guarantees. The goal is not merely to speak the truth occasionally but to become truthful people whose character reflects God’s goodness.

In a world where exaggeration, half-truths, and broken promises have become common, Jesus calls us to something greater. He invites us to live with such integrity that our words and actions are consistent. When we say we will do something, we do it. When we commit ourselves to a responsibility, we follow through. Our credibility is built not by impressive words but by faithful living.

A simple way to remember this message is through the word YES.

Y – Yield Your Heart to Truth

Truthfulness begins in the heart. Before our words become honest, our hearts must be honest before God. We should regularly examine our motives, attitudes, and intentions. Are we speaking to impress others, avoid responsibility, or gain an advantage? When we yield our hearts to God, He shapes us into people who value truth over convenience.

In daily life, this means being honest on school assignments, business transactions, expense reports, tax declarations, and even small conversations. Integrity is often revealed in the little things.

E – Ensure Your Actions Match Your Words

One of the greatest testimonies a Christian can give is consistency. People are inspired when they see someone whose actions support what they say. A promise kept strengthens relationships; a promise broken weakens trust.

When parents keep their commitments to their children, trust grows. When leaders follow through on their responsibilities, respect develops. When friends remain faithful to their word, friendships deepen.

Jesus teaches us that our speech should be simple and reliable because our lives already confirm our sincerity. We should strive to become people whose words do not need extra proof because our character speaks for itself.

S – Speak with Simplicity and Sincerity

Sometimes people use many words to convince others because they lack credibility. Jesus points us toward simplicity. Honest communication is clear, respectful, and sincere. It avoids deception, manipulation, gossip, and hidden agendas.

Speaking sincerely also means having the courage to tell the truth with kindness. We do not use truth as a weapon, but as a way to build trust and strengthen relationships.

Every conversation is an opportunity to reflect God’s faithfulness. When our speech is sincere, we become instruments of peace and unity.

The message of Jesus reminds us that God desires integrity in every area of life. He calls us to be people whose character is so trustworthy that a simple “yes” or “no” is enough.

May we live each day with YES:
Yield our hearts to truth,
Ensure our actions match our words,
and Speak with simplicity and sincerity.

When truth fills our hearts, trust follows our words, and God’s light shines through our lives.
