Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus

6/12/2026 (Friday) Today’s Gospel reading: Matthew 11:25-30

25 At that time Jesus exclaimed: “I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to little ones.
26 Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will.
27 All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.”
28 “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”

6/12/2026 (Friday) Today’s Gospel Reflection / homily / sermon: Matthew 11:25-30

This Gospel reading presents a beautiful invitation from Jesus to trust Him rather than carry life’s burdens alone. He reveals that God’s wisdom is often received by humble hearts rather than by those who depend only on their own strength. He also offers rest to those who are weary, anxious, and overwhelmed. In a world filled with pressure, deadlines, worries, and responsibilities, this message reminds us that true peace is found not in escaping life’s challenges but in walking closely with Christ through them.

To remember how to live out this message, use the word REST.

R – Recognize Your Need for God

Many people try to solve every problem on their own. They carry emotional burdens, fears, regrets, and worries without seeking God’s help. The first step toward peace is recognizing that we need Him. Humility opens our hearts to God’s guidance and grace. When we admit that we cannot do everything by ourselves, we make room for God’s strength to work in our weakness.

E – Entrust Your Burdens to Jesus

Jesus invites the weary to come to Him. He does not promise a life without challenges, but He promises His presence and help. Entrusting our burdens means bringing our worries, fears, family concerns, financial struggles, and personal disappointments to Him in prayer. Instead of carrying the weight alone, we place it in His hands. Every sincere prayer is an act of trust that says, “Lord, I believe You are walking with me.”

S – Stay Close and Learn from Christ

Jesus invites us not only to come to Him but also to learn from Him. We learn His patience when people disappoint us. We learn His compassion when others are suffering. We learn His forgiveness when we are hurt. Staying close to Christ through prayer, Scripture, worship, and acts of kindness gradually transforms our hearts. The more we learn from Him, the more we experience the peace that the world cannot give.

T – Trust His Plan and Timing

One of the heaviest burdens people carry is the desire to control everything. We want immediate answers, instant solutions, and clear directions. Yet God’s timing often differs from ours. Trust means believing that even when we do not understand what is happening, God is still working for our good. Faith allows us to move forward with confidence, knowing that God sees the whole picture while we see only a small part of it.

The message of the passage can be summed up in one simple word: REST. Recognize your need for God, Entrust your burdens to Jesus, Stay close and learn from Him, and Trust His plan and timing.

When we practice REST, we discover that peace is not the absence of problems but the presence of Christ. The burdens may still exist, but they no longer define us because we are carrying them with the One whose love is greater than every worry. In Him, weary hearts find strength, troubled minds find peace, and restless souls find true rest.
