6/10/2026 (Wednesday) Today’s Gospel reading: Matthew 5:17-19

Jesus said to his disciples:
17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.
18 Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place.
19 Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.”

6/10/2026 (Wednesday) Today’s Gospel reflection / homily / sermon: Matthew 5:17-19

The Gospel reading above reminds us that Jesus did not come to discard God’s will but to fulfill it perfectly. He teaches that faith is not merely about knowing what is right; it is about living it every day. The Gospel invites us to respect God’s commands, cherish His teachings, and allow them to shape our character. A life of faith becomes meaningful when belief is translated into action. To help us remember the lessons of this Gospel, let us use the mnemonic OBEY.

O – Open Your Heart to God’s Word

God’s Word is not just a collection of ancient teachings; it is a guide for everyday living. When we open our hearts to His truth, we allow Him to direct our decisions, attitudes, and priorities. Many people hear God’s message but fail to let it transform them. A disciple listens attentively and welcomes God’s wisdom with humility. An open heart becomes fertile soil where faith can grow and bear fruit.

B – Be Faithful in Small Things

Jesus emphasizes the importance of even the smallest commands. This teaches us that faithfulness is demonstrated in ordinary moments. Small acts of honesty, kindness, patience, and integrity may seem insignificant, but they reveal the condition of our hearts. A person who is faithful in little things develops habits that prepare them for greater responsibilities. Great holiness is often built through countless small acts of obedience.

E – Express Faith Through Action

Faith is not merely spoken; it is demonstrated. People are inspired not only by what we believe but by how we live. When we forgive, help those in need, speak truthfully, and show compassion, we express God’s love in practical ways. The world needs examples of people whose actions match their words. Genuine faith becomes visible when it influences our daily choices.

Y – Yield Your Life to God’s Will

Yielding means trusting God’s plans even when they differ from our own. Sometimes obedience requires sacrifice, patience, or letting go of personal preferences. Yet God’s wisdom always leads to what is ultimately good. When we surrender our ambitions, fears, and desires to Him, we discover peace and purpose. A yielded heart is not weak; it is strong because it trusts the One who sees the bigger picture.

The Gospel challenges us to be people who not only know God’s teachings but also practice them faithfully. Let us remember OBEY:

O – Open your heart to God’s Word.
B – Be faithful in small things.
E – Express faith through action.
Y – Yield your life to God’s will.

When we live this way, our faith becomes more than a belief system. It becomes a witness to God’s presence in the world. Obedience is not about following rules out of fear; it is about responding to God’s love with trust and commitment. Every act of obedience, no matter how small, draws us closer to Him and allows His light to shine through our lives.
