December 4 2025 Gospel Gospel Reading and Reflection

12/4/2025 (Thursday) Today’s Gospel reading: Matthew 7:21, 24-27

Jesus said to his disciples:
21 Not every one that says to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven: but he that does the will of my Father who is in heaven, he shall enter into the kingdom of heaven.
24 Everyone therefore that hears my words, and does them, shall be likened to a wise man that built his house upon a rock,
25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and they beat upon that house, and it fell not, for it was founded on a rock.
26 And everyone that hears my words, and does them not, shall be like a foolish man that built his house upon the sand,
27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and they beat upon that house, and it collapsed and was completely ruined.”

12/4/2025 (Thursday) Today’s Gospel reflection / homily / sermon: Matthew 7:21, 24-27

There is a big difference between simply knowing what is right and actually living it. Many people speak beautifully about faith. Some can recite teachings, attend gatherings, and even lead others. Yet the true measure of a person’s relationship with God is not found in words, appearances, or religious activity, but in the daily decisions that align the heart with His will. God looks not at our lips but at the life we build because real obedience is seen, felt, and lived.

Jesus teaches that a wise person is like a builder who chooses to build a house on solid rock. It takes time, effort, and sacrifice to prepare a strong foundation. It is not glamorous work. Nobody applauds while the builder digs deep or clears stones; the visible part comes later. But when the storms arrive—and storms always come—the house stands firm.

In life, each of us is building something: character, integrity, relationships, daily habits, the way we treat people, and how we respond when no one is watching. If we build on convenience, shortcuts, or emotions, we are building on sand. Everything seems fine until pressure comes. But when life is grounded on obeying God’s guidance, we discover strength that cannot be shaken.

Consider the employee who refuses to lie for a business deal even when pressured. It would be easier to compromise, but choosing truth becomes the solid foundation that protects their integrity when accusations or problems later arise. Or think of the student who studies diligently instead of cheating “just this once.” When real tests of character come later in life, they stand firm because they learned early that shortcuts create weak foundations.

Imagine a family that prays and communicates openly, forgiving quickly and loving intentionally. They are not perfect, but their home is built on obedience to God’s principles. So when financial crises, sickness, or misunderstandings come, their foundation holds. Meanwhile, a family that appears religious but avoids honesty, patience, or humility may crumble when difficulties arise—not for lack of faith-talk, but for lack of faith-lived.

Even spiritually, there are people who enjoy inspirational messages but never allow God’s words to reshape their priorities. They admire the teachings but resist the transformation. This is like decorating a house with beautiful furnishings while ignoring cracks in the foundation. It looks good for a while, but the danger is hidden beneath the surface.

Obedience is not always easy. It requires forgiving someone who hurt you deeply, staying humble when pride feels justified, giving generously when resources feel tight, apologizing when you would rather defend yourself, and choosing honesty even when no one else will know. These choices do not make headlines, but they build a life that can endure storms.

The invitation today is simple yet challenging: let your faith move from your lips into your lifestyle. Build daily with small acts of obedience. Strengthen your foundation with prayer, humility, integrity, compassion, and perseverance. When the winds blow, and they will, you will discover that your life stands unshaken, not because of your strength, but because you built on what lasts.

May you choose the rock, not the sand. May God’s guidance shape your choices, your character, and your future.
