7/14/2025 (Monday) Today’s Gospel reading: Matthew 10:34-11:1

34 Jesus said to his Apostles: “Do not think that I have come to bring peace upon the earth. I have come to bring not peace but the sword.
35 For I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;
36 and one’s enemies will be those of his household.
37 “Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me;
38 and whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me.
39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
40 “Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.
41 Whoever receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever receives a righteous man because he is righteous will receive a righteous man’s reward.
42 And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones to drink because he is a disciple, amen, I say to you, he will surely not lose his reward.”
1 When Jesus finished giving these commands to his Twelve disciples, he went away from that place to teach and to preach in their towns.

7/14/2025 (Monday) Today’s Gospel reflection / homily / sermon: Matthew 10:34-11:1

There are moments in life when doing the right thing doesn’t feel peaceful. There are many times when standing for truth and living with conviction doesn’t win you applause but instead, it brings resistance, conflict, and sometimes, isolation and hatred. This may come as a surprise, especially if we assume that living a life of faith always leads to harmony. But in truth, living with deep integrity often sets us apart.

We are called not to a life of comfort but of courage. To follow the path of TRUTH is to make a choice, to stand for something even when it costs us relationships, approval, or convenience. True purpose sometimes divides us from familiar patterns, and even from people we deeply love. It’s not about being combative or argumentative; it’s about being faithful, honest, and unwavering in what truly matters.

In our everyday life, this can show up in the quiet moments when no one is watching: choosing honesty over shortcuts at work, loving someone enough to speak the TRUTH even when it’s uncomfortable, or refusing to compromise your values for popularity. These aren’t grand gestures; they’re daily decisions that show the depth of your character and commitment.

The journey of faith is one of allegiance, a heart fully devoted to something greater than self. It means being willing to let go of comfort for the sake of conviction. At times, it will feel like swimming upstream. Friends might not understand your decisions. Family might question your direction. You might be misunderstood or even rejected. And yet, this is not a sign of failure. It is a mark of faithfulness.

We must not be afraid of the tension that TRUTH sometimes brings. Instead, we must allow it to refine us and define us. Growth doesn’t come from ease and comfort but from persistence and courage. Peace isn’t the absence of conflict; it’s the presence of purpose. When you live with deep integrity, rooted in love and TRUTH, you may stir the waters but you will also light the way.

Life will often test where your true loyalties lie. You will be asked, in ways large and small, to choose between what is popular and what is right, between ease and endurance, between fleeting approval and eternal purpose. Each time you choose TRUTH, you take a step deeper into the life you were meant to live.

There is also a reminder here: do not fear rejection or misunderstanding. If you face judgment, criticism, and loss, keep pressing forward, not for recognition, but for something eternal. Your sacrifices are not unnoticed. The love, the truth, the integrity you bring into the world matters. It transforms you, and it quietly influences others more than you realize. Your courage becomes a spark for those still afraid to speak or to live honestly. Your strength becomes a shelter for others searching for theirs.

Keep going. Hold fast to what you know is right, even when the world around you shifts. Let your life be a testament to unshakable faith and courageous love. You are called to more than comfort. You are called to impact. And sometimes, that means standing firm while the ground beneath you shakes.

The reward is not found in the approval of the crowd, but in the quiet certainty that you are walking in TRUTH. That you are aligned with something greater than yourself. That you have chosen purpose over passivity, truth over compromise, and love with courage.

And when you do, even amid conflict, you will know a deeper peace, the kind that comes not from the absence of trials, but from the presence of God’s guiding hand through them.
