When I Was Young

When I Was Young

When I was young, the skies were wide,
My days were long with time to bide.
No screens to glow, no phones to ring,
Just wind and birds and songs to sing.

My playground stretched from hill to stream,
Where nature taught me how to dream.
The mountain paths, the valley deep,
Held secrets I was free to keep.

We climbed up trees, we raced the breeze,
We laughed with joy and scraped our knees.
The river knew my every thought—
Its flowing voice the truth it taught.

Our food was picked from soil and tree,
So fresh, so real, so wild and free.
We cooked on fire, not stoves with heat,
And every meal was pure and sweet.

And neighbors? Oh, they weren’t unknown—
Each house a part of what we’d grown.
We shared, we cared, we’d gather tight
And talk beneath the stars at night.

When I was young, the world was small,
Yet somehow, it contained it all.
A simple life, a golden song—
I miss it now, I knew it long.
