A reading from the gospel according to Matthew 11:25-27
25 At that time Jesus exclaimed: “I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned, you have revealed them to the childlike.
26 Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will.
27 All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.”
Matthew 11:25-27 – God Reveals Himself
Let us recall that in the previous passages of Matthew Chapter 11, John the Baptist sent his disciples to inquire whether Jesus is the awaited Messiah. It is followed by the denunciation of Chorazin and Bethsaida for their lack of repentance even if they have witness many miracles that Jesus performed. In other words, many people did not have any clue as to the identity of Jesus.
In the gospel passage above, Jesus has revealed His intimate relationship with God, the creator of heaven and earth. For Him to call Yahweh El Shaddai as His Father was unheard of in those days. Yet He addresses God casually as His own Father. Only someone who knew God very intimately can do so. Jesus knew God in His bones. That is why He can claim that no one knows the Father except Him. For indeed He is the Son of God.

Jesus gives praise to God, the Father, and acknowledges Him as Lord of heaven and earth. He is actually showing us how to pray. Aside from the “Our Father” prayer that He taught as recorded in Matthew 6:9-13, here He utters a prayer to praise God who created heaven and earth and therefore He is Lord of everything and everyone.

Knowing God is the ultimate wisdom and understanding. We can’t have it unless we have an intimate relationship with God. For only God is the source of everything. Only to those whom Jesus wishes to grant it shall acquire wisdom. Yet we know that Jesus does not play favorites. If we truly desire to know Him, He will reveal Himself. “You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you. (Jeremiah 29:13)”
Prayer
Dear Jesus, I humbly pray that you reveal to me wisdom and knowledge of the Blessed Trinity. I may not be worthy but I believe that it is your joy to share your deep relationship with the Father. I now open my heart and mind to the outpouring of your grace and mercy. Thank you Jesus for your blessings. Amen.

Describes me. I was a fool till God showed me I wasn’t as smart as I thought I was.
