June 25 2023 Gospel Reading and Reflection: Matthew 10:26-33

6/25/2023 (Sunday) Today’s gospel reading: Matthew 10:26-33

26 Jesus said to the Twelve: “Fear no one. Nothing is concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be known.
27 What I say to you in the darkness, speak in the light; what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops.
28 And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.
29 Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father’s knowledge.
30 Even all the hairs of your head are counted.
31 So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
32 Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father.
33 But whoever denies me before others, I will deny before my heavenly Father.”

6/25/2023 (Sunday) Today’s gospel reflection: Matthew 10:26-33

We believe in God who is omnipotent. There is nothing that He can not do. In fact, He is the creator of the universe, of everything we see and can not see. His Angel Gabriel once told Mary, the Mother of Jesus that nothing is impossible with God (Luke 1:37).

We believe in God who is omniscient. Nothing is unknown to Him and not even all the wisdom and knowledge of this world combined can compare with his omniscience. We can turn our back and run away from Him but we can not hide from Him. He knew us even before we are born. In Him, nothing is secret.

We believe in God who is omnipresent. Just as the song goes,
“Where can I run from Your love
If I climb to the heavens You are there
If I fly to the sunrise or sail beyond the sea
still I’d find You there.”

Indeed God is everywhere. We can worship Him everywhere for He is there. We can call upon Him wherever we are and He will hear us. Whether we shout or whisper or just talk to Him in our mind, however we say anything, it will be known to Him.

God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent. And He is our Father! So what is there to be afraid of? We have a father who can do anything, who knows everything, and is present anywhere. Besides, He sent His only begotten Son, Lord Jesus, to serve us, to die for us, and in dying for us, He has overcome the world! So what is there to be afraid of?

We should be proud of our Father and His Son who died for our salvation. Why deny Jesus?

Yet, we do. When we sin, we forget God. We forget Jesus who died for us. Sometimes not obviously but there are some of us who do it out of fear of ridicule or real fear of death at gun’s point. For some, their denial of Jesus’ existence and presence in our midst is born out of arrogance or misinformation. They are answerable to Jesus when the time comes.

Let us pray that we may always be aware of the presence of God and to be grateful, instead of being ashamed, of His love and forgiveness.
