History of San Juan
The town of Bacnotan was founded in 1582 by the Augustinian Friars as a missionary center. In 1586, it was elevated as a pueblo and renamed San Juan in honor of Saint John the Baptist which became the patron saint of the new town.
Economy of San Juan
San Juan is an agricultural town where rice, corn and fish are the major products. Due to the influx to tourists, especially the surfing enthusiasts, many resorts and inns mushroomed along the coast.
