He tried to apply at Tesco but he did not pass the interview. Then he got a job as a mail boy at EMI Music where his father worked.

In the 1980s, Simon Cowell formed Fanfare Records which became successful at first due to some hit songs such as “So Macho” by Sinitta. However, the company folded in 1989 and Simon was forced to become an employee again, this time with BMG. He signed up several entertainers including boy band Westlife which went to become a worldwide sensation, Cher Lloyd, Olly Murs, Susan Boyle, Little Mix, Labrinth, Jackie Evancho, and Fifth Harmony.

The advent of the 21th century saw Simon reach astronomical fame when he produced talent competition series such as Pop idol (started in 2001), American idol (2002), The X-Factor (2004) and Britain’s Got Talent (2007).
