On October 7 in the year 1959, one of the most successful TV and music producers was born in London, Great Britain. His name is Simon Cowell, the man behind popular talent shows such as American idol, Britain’s Got Talent, and X-Factor. As of October, 2020, his net worth is estimated at around $600 million.
Simon Cowell was the son of a music executive and a ballet dancer. He has a brother, a sister, a half-sister, and three half-brothers. At 16, he quit school and went to work as quantity surveyor and later as a trainee in a law firm, a runner, a waiter, and as a canvasser in an estate agency. He tried to apply at Tesco but he did not pass the interview. Then he got a job as a mail boy at EMI Music where his father worked.
In the 1980s, Simon Cowell formed Fanfare Records which became successful at first due to some hit songs such as “So Macho” by Sinitta. However, the company folded in 1989 and Simon was forced to become an employee again, this time with BMG. He signed up several entertainers including boy band Westlife who went to become worldwide sensation.
The advent of the 21th century saw Simon reach astronomical fame when he produced talent competition series such as Pop idol (started in 2001), American idol (2002), The X-Factor (2004) and Britain’s Got Talent (2007). In all these shows, he became famous as a judge with his many scathing comments that borders on insults.
Simon established the Syco Entertainment with Sony Corporation as partner. The company signed up many famous artists such as One Direction, Little Mix, Susan Boyle, Ella Henderson, Il Divo, Labrinth, Fifth Harmony, Fleur East and Collabro.
Simon has a son with girlfriend Lauren Silverman. He had previous relationships with several girls before. In 2010, Time Magazine named him as one of 100 most influential people in the world.
