History of Binalonan
Binalonan derived its name from the Ilocano term “Balon” which means packed lunch. In the olden days, travellers from Northern Luzon used to rest under the huge trees in this area and eat their “balon” here.
On February 18, 1872, Binalonan was organized as a pueblo or town.
Economy of Binalonan
Binalonan is an agricultural town where rice is the chief product. Other farmers plant corn, sugarcane, vegetables and raise chicken and hogs. Some families are engaged in small scale production of processed food and beverages such as rice wine (Basi). In the town center or Poblacion, several large commercial establishments are found.
Binalonan is the location of a large feed milling operation by the country’s largest conglomerate San Miguel Corporation.
With the groundbreaking of an industrial estate in Barangay Linmansangan by Sumi North Philippines Wiring Corporation, it is expected that the local economy will take off. In addition, the town will greatly benefit from the full operation of the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway that traverse Binalonan.
