History
In 1590, Bauang was established as a Spanish settlement with Friar Agustin Mino as its first priest. In 1765, it was recognized as a town of Pangasinan Province because La Union was not yet created as a province. Don Francisco delos Reyes was its first gobernadorcillo. When La Union was finally created in 1850, Bauang became one of its original towns.
Economy
Bauang is an agricultural town where rice, fish, grape, and vegetables are produced. However, its location nextdoor to the city of San Fernando made Bauang a catch basin to the overflow of urbanization. As a result, the town is fast becoming a haven of real estate and trading investments.
Watch the video below to see how congested Bauang streets are nowadays.
The town of Bauang is home to a large diesel-fired power plant.
Considered as the beach capital of the north, Bauang offers business opportunities in the tourism and recreation sector. Hotels, resorts, gaming and other entertainment facilities are badly needed. Other industries to support tourism should also be developed.
