Pedro Escuro is a Filipino scientist who is considered as the “Father of Philippine Rice Breeding Program”.

Doctorate : Plant Breeding and genetics from University of Minnesota (1959)

Contribution to Science
* Produced improved rice varieties such as C4-63, C4-137, C4-113, C-168, C22, UPL-Ri-5, PSB Rc 16, and PSB RC 36
* Produced three improved wheat varieties (Trigo 1, Trigo 2, Trigo 3)

Awards
1994 – National Scientist of the Philippines
1974 – Ayala award in agricultural science
1973 – University of the Philippines Distinguished Professional award in agriculture
1967 – Presidential Plaque of Merit for outstanding accomplishments
