November 2 2026 Gospel Reading and Reflection

11/2/2026 (Monday) Today’s Gospel reading: John 6:37-40

Jesus said to the crowds:
37 “Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and I will not reject anyone who comes to me,
38 because I came down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent me.
39 And this is the will of the one who sent me, that I should not lose anything of what he gave me, but that I should raise it on the last day.
40 For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him on the last day.”

11/2/2026 (Monday) Today’s Gospel reflection / homily / sermon: John 6:37-40

Theme: Living in the Assurance of God’s Unfailing Love

In this Gospel reading, Jesus reveals the Father’s loving desire to welcome those who come to Him, preserve them in His care, and lead them toward eternal life. This message brings special comfort as we celebrate All Souls Day, when we remember our departed loved ones and pray for all the faithful departed. Although death separates us from those we love, our faith reminds us that death does not have the final word. Through Jesus Christ, we hold on to the hope of resurrection and the promise of everlasting life. Using the word LAST, let us discover four messages of hope that can strengthen our faith and comfort our grieving hearts.

L – LOVE THAT TRANSCENDS DEATH

God’s love is greater than the boundaries of time and death. On All Souls Day, we remember the people who touched our lives with their kindness, sacrifices, wisdom, and love. Their physical presence may be gone, but the beautiful memories they left behind continue to live in our hearts.

Grief is natural because love makes separation painful. We may wish we could hear their voices again, embrace them once more, or tell them the things we never had the chance to say. Yet we do not grieve without hope. We entrust our departed loved ones to the mercy of God, whose love is greater than our understanding. Let us remember them with gratitude, pray for them faithfully, and believe that God’s love reaches beyond the grave.

A – ASSURANCE THAT NO ONE IS FORGOTTEN BY GOD

Jesus welcomes those who come to Him and promises not to reject them. This assurance reminds us that every human life matters to God. Our departed loved ones are not forgotten, and neither are those who mourn their absence.

Sometimes, we wonder about the final moments of someone we love. We may carry regrets, unanswered questions, or sadness over words left unspoken. Instead of allowing these feelings to overwhelm us, let us place our departed loved ones in God’s compassionate hands. We trust not in our own judgments but in His perfect mercy and justice.

On this day, we pray for all the faithful departed, especially those who have no one to remember them. May our prayers become expressions of love, faith, and hope in God’s saving grace.

S – SEEING DEATH THROUGH THE PROMISE OF CHRIST

Jesus came to accomplish the Father’s will and bring humanity into eternal life. Through His death and resurrection, He opened for us the hope of victory over sin and death.

All Souls Day invites us not only to remember those who have died but also to reflect on how we are living. Life is precious, and our time on earth is an opportunity to love, forgive, serve, and prepare our hearts for eternity.

Let us reconcile with those we have hurt, cherish our families, help the needy, and share our faith with others. We cannot change the past, but we can make our remaining days meaningful. Every act of love becomes a lasting testimony to the goodness of God.

T – TRUSTING IN THE HOPE OF RESURRECTION

Our earthly journey eventually comes to an end, but Christian hope looks beyond the grave. Jesus promises eternal life and the resurrection of those who belong to Him. This is the foundation of our hope as we remember our departed loved ones.

We may shed tears today, but we can also find comfort in God’s promise. We may miss those who have gone before us, but we can entrust their eternal destiny to His loving care. Our hope is not that we fully understand the mystery of death, but that we trust the One who has conquered it.

As we observe All Souls Day, let us pray for the faithful departed, comfort those who mourn, and live each day prepared to meet the Lord.

The word LAST reminds us to Live in God’s love, Accept His comfort, Seek His will, and Trust His promise of eternal life.

May this All Souls Day renew our hope, strengthen our faith, and remind us that, in Christ, death is not the end of the story. We remember our departed loved ones with love, commend them to God’s mercy, and look forward in hope to the resurrection and the fullness of life with Him. Amen.
