8/7/2026 (Friday) Today’s Gospel reading: Matthew 16:24-28
24 Jesus said to his disciples,
“Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.
25 For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
26 What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life? Or what can one give in exchange for his life?
27 For the Son of Man will come with his angels in his Father’s glory, and then he will repay each according to his conduct.
28 Amen, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death
until they see the Son of Man coming in his Kingdom.”

Theme: Discovering the Life That Truly Matters
Many people spend their lives searching. Some search for success, wealth, recognition, security, or happiness. Yet after achieving these things, they often discover an emptiness that possessions and accomplishments cannot fill. In this Gospel reading, Jesus presents a surprising truth: the life that truly matters is not found by pursuing ourselves but by following Him. The path may seem difficult, but it leads to eternal joy and lasting purpose.
The word FIND helps us remember the heart of Jesus’ message.
F – Follow Christ
The Christian life begins with a decision to follow Jesus. Following Him is more than believing in Him; it is walking in His footsteps every day. It means trusting His wisdom above our own, obeying His teachings, and allowing Him to shape our decisions, priorities, and relationships.
Following Christ is not always easy. Sometimes it requires leaving behind sinful habits, selfish ambitions, or worldly values. Yet every step taken with Jesus leads us closer to the person God created us to be. Ask yourself, “Who is leading my life, my desires or my Savior?”
I – Identify with His Cross
Jesus teaches that His followers must be willing to carry their own cross. In His time, the cross was not a symbol of comfort but of sacrifice, surrender, and complete commitment.
Our “cross” may not be made of wood, but it may include forgiving someone who hurt us, standing for truth when it is unpopular, serving others without recognition, remaining faithful during suffering, or choosing integrity when dishonesty seems easier.
Identifying with Christ’s cross means saying, “Lord, Your will is more important than my comfort.” The cross reminds us that genuine discipleship always has a cost, but it also promises a greater reward.
N – Never Exchange Eternity for the World
Jesus asks a profound question: What value is there in gaining everything the world offers if, in the process, we lose what matters most?
Our world constantly encourages us to measure success by money, popularity, possessions, or influence. But these things are temporary. They cannot buy peace of heart, forgiveness, or eternal life.
Imagine a businessman who spends every waking hour building a fortune but has no time for God or family. He may become rich, yet remain spiritually bankrupt. Conversely, a humble believer with little material wealth but a deep relationship with God possesses a treasure that can never be taken away.
Live with eternity in view. Invest in what lasts forever—your relationship with God, your character, your love for others, and your faithful service.
D – Depend on God’s Reward
Jesus reminds His followers that one day He will return and reward each person according to the life they have lived. This truth gives us hope whenever obedience is difficult.
When people misunderstand you because of your faith, God sees.
When you quietly serve without applause, God notices.
When you choose honesty over profit or forgiveness over revenge, God remembers.
The rewards of this world are temporary, but God’s rewards are eternal. Therefore, do not become discouraged by temporary sacrifices. Trust that every act of faithfulness has eternal significance.
The world’s message is simple: “Find yourself.” Jesus offers a different invitation: “Find your life by following Me.”
It seems like a paradox, but it is the very heart of the Gospel. Those who cling tightly to their own ambitions eventually discover how fragile earthly success can be. But those who willingly surrender their lives to Christ discover a joy, peace, and purpose that neither time nor death can destroy.
Always remember FIND:
F – Follow Christ: Make Him the leader of your life.
I – Identify with His Cross: Embrace sacrifice and faithful obedience.
N – Never Exchange Eternity for the World: Value your soul above temporary gain.
D – Depend on God’s Reward: Live today with confidence in Christ’s promised return.
When you choose to FIND your life in Jesus rather than in the world, you discover the greatest treasure of all, a life filled with purpose today and eternal glory tomorrow.
