April 22 2026 Gospel Reading and Reflection

4/22/2026 (Wednesday) Today’s Gospel reading: John 6:35-40

35 Jesus said to the crowds: I am the bread of life: he that comes to me shall not hunger: and he that believes in me shall never thirst.
36 But I said unto you, that you also have seen me, and you believe not.
37 All that the Father gives to me shall come to me; and him that comes to me, I will not cast out.
38 Because I came down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him that sent me.
39 Now this is the will of the Father who sent me: that of all that he has given me, I should lose nothing; but should raise it up again in the last day.
40 And this is the will of my Father that sent me: that everyone who sees the Son, and believes in him, may have life everlasting, and I will raise him up in the last day.

4/22/2026 (Wednesday) Today’s Gospel reflection / homily / sermon: John 6:35-40

Jesus speaks to a crowd that struggles to believe despite witnessing His works. He explains that those who come to Him are drawn by God, and that He will never reject anyone who truly seeks Him. He reveals His mission: to carry out the will of the One who sent Him by preserving and giving life to those who believe, promising a future restoration that goes beyond this present life.

This message touches one of the deepest human fears, the fear of being rejected or forgotten. Many people go through life trying to prove their worth, hoping to be accepted by others. We perform, achieve, and even pretend, just to feel that we belong. Yet beneath all these efforts is a quiet question: “Am I truly accepted as I am?” The heart of this passage answers that question with profound assurance. The invitation to come is open, and the welcome is certain.

For individuals, this is a powerful reminder that our value does not depend on how others see us or even how we see ourselves on our worst days. There is a love that does not fluctuate with our performance. When we feel like we have failed, when we carry guilt, or when we think we are not enough, this message reminds us that we are not easily cast aside. Instead, we are held with intention and purpose. This truth can bring healing to wounded hearts and restore confidence to those who feel lost.

Another important insight is the idea of being guided. Faith is not simply a human effort to reach upward; it is also a response to a divine pull. There are moments in life when something stirs within us such as a longing for meaning, a desire for change, or a quiet conviction to take a different path. These moments are not random. They are invitations to move closer to something greater. Recognizing this can help us trust the process of growth, even when we do not fully understand it.

This passage also speaks about security and hope. In a world filled with uncertainty, where relationships can break, opportunities can disappear, and life itself can change suddenly, there is a promise of something lasting. It reminds us that what truly matters is not temporary. This gives us courage to face life’s challenges without being overwhelmed by fear. We can endure difficulties knowing that our lives are part of a bigger, more meaningful story.

On a global level, this message challenges how we treat one another. If we believe that no person who seeks goodness and truth should be rejected, then we are called to reflect that same openness in our own lives. Imagine a world where people are not judged solely by their past mistakes, where compassion replaces exclusion, and where every person is given the chance to belong. Such a shift would transform communities, relationships, and even nations.

Ultimately, this passage invites us to trust in a love that is both pursuing and preserving. It reassures us that we are not alone in our journey and that our lives are not without direction. When we choose to respond to that call, we begin to experience a deeper sense of peace, purpose, and belonging, one that carries us not only through this life but beyond it.
