Career
Melvin Sacay is a product of the city’s strategic sports initiatives, such as the “Sapatos” Program, which supports local athletes in their pursuit of national and international success. His career reached a major milestone during the 2025 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games held in Thailand. On December 17, 2025, Sacay secured a gold medal in the men’s laser-run individual event at Jomtien Beach, Pattaya. He completed the course—which combines cross-country running with laser pistol shooting—in 10 minutes and 41.55 seconds, earning a total of 659 points. This victory was particularly significant as it opened the gold medal haul for the Philippine modern pentathlon team in that edition of the games.

In addition to his individual success, Sacay has been a key member of a rising generation of Filipino pentathletes. His training involves a rigorous schedule of morning, afternoon, and evening sessions, which he has credited as the foundation for his ability to perform under pressure. He is officially licensed by the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) and continues to represent the Philippines in regional competitions, aiming to elevate the country’s standing in multi-disciplinary sports.
