Career
Gian Santos started to swim at the age of seven and briefly becoming distracted at age 12, his parents emphasized discipline, hard work, and the role swimming could play in his future. He is part of the swimming theme of Colimbia University. Significant milestones in his career include holding the Philippine Junior National Record for the 400 IM and being a two-time World Juniors qualifier for the Philippines, having competed in Lima, Peru, in 2022 and Netanya, Israel, in 2023. He has consistently excelled at national and international meets, including winning six gold medals and setting two national records at the 2024 Philippine Aquatics Trials, where he was named the Most Valuable Swimmer. His accomplishments also include winning a silver and three bronze medals at the 2022 Southeast Asian Age Group Championships in Malaysia and competing at the World Aquatics Championships. He trains with Irvine Novaquatics and considers his club coach, Adam Crossen, whom he respects highly for his mentorship, as a “second dad.” Santos has openly shared his Olympic dreams and his motivation to constantly test his physical and mental limits in the water.
In 2025, Gian Santos finished second with 2:03.88 in the Men’s 200-meter Individual Medley to claim the Philippines’ first medal in swimming at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand.
