7B Jesus said to Nicodemus: You must be born again.
8 The wind blows where it wills, and you can hear the sound it makes, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes; so it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
9 Nicodemus answered and said to him, “How can this happen?”
10 Jesus answered and said to him, “You are the teacher of Israel and you do not understand this?
11 Amen, amen, I say to you, we speak of what we know and we testify to what we have seen, but you people do not accept our testimony.
12 If I tell you about earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you about heavenly things?
13 No one has gone up to heaven except the one who has come down from heaven, the Son of Man.
14 And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
15 so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.”
4/9/2024 (Tuesday) Today’s gospel reflection: John 3:7B-15
In the gospel reading above, we find a profound message, a divine invitation to rebirth and a deeper understanding of faith. “Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.'” These words, spoken by Jesus to Nicodemus under the cloak of night, pierce the veil of our daily existence, challenging us to consider what it truly means to see the kingdom of God.
To be born again is not a physical rebirth but a spiritual awakening, a transformation that occurs within the depths of our souls. It is about allowing the Holy Spirit to move freely in our lives, guiding us towards a path of righteousness, much like the wind that blows without constraint, unseen yet palpably felt.
Jesus further elucidates this concept through the analogy of Moses lifting up the serpent in the wilderness. Just as those who looked upon the bronze serpent were healed, so too are we offered salvation through faith in Christ. This act of lifting our eyes to Jesus, acknowledging Him as our savior, symbolizes our belief in the power of His sacrifice, a testament to God’s boundless love for us.
These verses beckon us to a life of faith, where being born of water and Spirit signifies a cleansing of our old selves and an embrace of a new identity in Christ. It calls us to look beyond our earthly limitations, to believe in the miraculous, and to trust in the eternal promise of salvation.
As we ponder these verses, let us open our hearts to the transformative power of faith. Let us be inspired to walk in the Spirit, to seek the things above, and to live in the fullness of God’s grace. For in believing, we find life, and in being born again, we discover the true essence of our existence.
