November 2 2023 Gospel Reading and Reflection

11/2/2023 (Thursday) Today’s gospel reading: John 6:37-40

Jesus said to the crowds:
37 “Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and I will not reject anyone who comes to me,
38 because I came down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent me.
39 And this is the will of the one who sent me, that I should not lose anything of what he gave me, but that I should raise it on the last day.
40 For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him on the last day.”

11/2/2023 (Thursday) Today’s gospel reflection: John 6:37-40

The gospel reading above speaks about the inclusiveness of God’s love. Everyone, without exception, is called to be saved through faith in Jesus, God’s only Son. This means that whatever our past is or present circumstances, we can be confident that Jesus will raise us up on the last day. There is only one thing that we must do: believe in Him.

So what does it mean to believe in Jesus? First, we must recognize Him as the Messiah, the one sent by God to redeem us. We must accept the fact that He is our Lord and Savior. Second, we must follow His commandments, that is, to love God and our neighbor. Third, we must have a relationship with Him, that is, we talk to Him in prayer, read His words in the bible and worship Him with humility and gratitude.

Moreover, to believe in Jesus means to proclaim Him everywhere and to share His message with everyone. It is God’s will that no one is left behind. Yet, He does not force anyone to believe in His Son Jesus. Perhaps, one reason why the second coming of jesus is delayed is to give more time to others who have not yet believe. God is patient, He gives His people many chances. Therefore, let us pray, not only for our own salvation, but for the salvation of everybody.
