“Remain in My Love”: The Path to Unshakable Joy
In the Gospel reading above, Jesus reveals one of the most beautiful truths of the Christian faith: we are deeply, perfectly, and eternally loved. And not just loved in any ordinary way—Jesus says, “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you.” Pause and let that sink in.
The love between the Father and the Son is the highest, most complete love in all of existence. It is holy, eternal, and unbreakable. And Jesus says, that’s the same love He has for us. Not a lesser love. Not a conditional love. But the very same love that flows within the Trinity now flows into our lives.
Jesus then invites us to remain in His love. This is not just a suggestion. It is a lifeline. To remain is to dwell, to stay rooted, to keep our hearts and minds anchored in the truth of His love no matter what life brings.
We all face days when we feel unworthy, forgotten, or unloved. But Jesus doesn’t say, “Feel My love when you’re good enough.” He says, “Remain in it.” His love is constant. The only question is whether we will stay connected to it.
How do we remain? Jesus gives us the answer: “If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love.” This isn’t about earning His love. It is about aligning our lives with it. Love and obedience are deeply connected. When we obey Jesus, not out of fear, but out of trust, we stay close to His heart. His commands aren’t burdensome; they’re the path to abundant life.
Then Jesus says something remarkable: “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.”
Jesus doesn’t want us to live in fear, guilt, or spiritual dryness. He wants us to live with joy and not just a little joy but His joy. A joy that is pure, lasting, and unaffected by circumstances. A joy that sustains us through trials, strengthens us in weakness, and reminds us of the goodness of God in every season.
This joy comes from being loved and loving in return. It comes from knowing we belong to Jesus, that we are secure in His hands, and that our lives have meaning beyond what the world can offer.
The world offers fleeting happiness that is based on possessions, achievements, and popularity. But Jesus offers complete joy that is rooted in love, grounded in truth, and sealed by His presence.
When we live from the truth of Jesus’ love, everything changes. We stop trying to prove our worth and start resting in the truth that we are already accepted. We stop chasing joy in all the wrong places and start finding it in our relationship with Him.
And this love is not meant to stay within us. It’s meant to flow through us. In the verses that follow, Jesus calls us to love one another as He has loved us. The more we receive His love, the more we are able to give it freely to others with grace, patience, and compassion.
In a world filled with noise, fear, and division, the love of Christ is our anchor. And real, lasting joy is the fruit of living in that love every single day.
Are you tired, weary, or running on empty? Jesus invites you to come back to the source. You don’t have to strive or pretend. You just have to remain. Let His love wash over you. Let it heal old wounds. Let it quiet your fears. And as you rest in His love, let His joy rise within you, not a shallow smile, but a deep, unshakable gladness.

The most wondrous sound we can ever hear is someone telling us that we are loved. The gospel reading above maybe very short but it contains what we need to hear: God loves us and He wants us to have complete joy.
We always look for true happiness somewhere. Many people seek to be happy in worldly things such as wealth, power and fame. Others think that sex, alcohol and drugs can satisfy their inner longings and make them happy. Nothing is further from the truth. Happiness is found nowhere else but only in God.
Finding happiness is never difficult. It does even cost us a penny. Jesus is inviting us to keep His commandment, remain in His love and we will have joy and peace.
