The Story of Jack Roush and his Car racing Adventures

On April 19 in the year 1942, one of the famous entrepreneurs in the car racing industry was born in Kentucky, United States. His name is Jack Roush, the founder of Roush Enterprises, the parent company of Roush Industries and the co-Founder of Roush Yates Engines.

Born to a middle class family, Jack Roush attended Berea College and graduated in 1964 with a degree in mathematics and physics. Later, he acquired a master’s degree in mathematics from Eastern Michigan University.

Jack Roush began his career with Ford Motor Company in Detroit where he was hooked on the company’s extensive motorsports activities. He moved to Chrysler Corporation before he partnered with Wayne Gapp to form a car racing venture in 1970. The duo went on to win national events including one championship.

In 1976, Jack Roush formed Jack Roush Performance Engineering to design and manufacture components for automotive applications especially race cars. In the 1980s, his company built high-performance cars for Ford particularly the Mustang brands. Subsequently, other auto-part products such as chassis, engines and wheels were added. The company also began building trucks and school buses which were all powered by propane autogas.

With the encouragement of Ford management, Jack Roush returned to the car racing circuit and subsequently won at least 24 championships. In 1988, Jack Roush teamed up with driver Mark Martin to establish NASCAR Winston Cup Series team. Since then, the two became one of the most successful partnerships in the history of NASCAR. In 2007, the team was renamed Roush Fenway Racing after a 50% share was sold to the Fenway Group.

Jack Roush is married to Pauline and they have two children. At present, his engineering company has around 6,000 employees. His son Jack Jr. has become an accomplished car racer in his own way.
