History of Sara

Sara used to be a territory of Concepcion. In 1877, the Augustinian Friars organized a parish and later evolved into a pueblo. Sugar plantations were established and by the early 20th century, the town had its own sugar mill. After the Second World War, the sugar mill closed its operation due to stiff competition and lack of new technology.

Economy of Sara

Sara is an agricultural town where sugar and rice are the main products. The town however is considered the commercial, transport and banking center of the eastern part of Panay Island. A big mall owned by Gaisano Group opened in 2019.
