History of Mayoyao
Mayoyao is one of the original towns of Ifugao Province. However, its territory became small after the creation of Alfonso Lista in 1955 and Aguinaldo in 1980.
During World War II, Mayoyao was the scene of heavy fighting between the Japanese Army and the combined Filipino and American forces. The defeat of Japanese in the “Battle of Mayoyao Ridge” at Mount Nagchajan weakened the Japanese spirit and resulted in the surrender of General Yamashita in Kiangan town.
Economy of Mayoyao
Mayoyao is predominantly agricultural where rice and sweet potato are the main products. Tourism is still undeveloped in this town although the local government is pursuing a development plan to exploit the potential of the locality as a tourist destination.
