History of Bataraza
On January 1, 1964, Bataraza was created by virtue of Republic Act 3425. It was formerly a territory of Brooke’s Point municipality.
Economy of Bataraza
Bataraza is mainly an agricultural and mining town. Rice, coconut, fish and nickel are the main products. The provincial government has a project to make the town the southern center for agricultural production and processing with the establishment of a food terminal at barangay Bonobono.
Bataraza-based Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation operates one of the largest nickel mines in the country.
