History
Libmanan was first called Piglabanan. Prior to the coming of the Spaniards, the area was already inhabited by people who fought Moro pirates. Records show that the name Libmanan was first used on September 15, 1574 but the founding date of the town was on April 3, 1574.
Economy
Libmanan is primarily a rice-producing town. Coastal villages depend on fishing as the main source of livelihood. Some farmers also raise coconuts, vegetables, root crops, chicken, and hogs. Cottage industries include production of handicraft and food items. In the town center called Poblacion are many groceries, banks and shops such as repair of machineries, furniture, tailoring, and bakeries.
