San Jose Del Monte History
San Jose Del Monte was first settled by the Itas and Dumagats. The Spaniards founded it as a pueblo on March 2, 1752. Previously, it was under the political jurisdiction of Meycauayan City.
When the Americans established a civil government at the onset of the 20th century, San Jose Del Monte was made a part of Sta. Maria but in 1918, it was again reorganized as a town with Ciriaco Gallardo appointed the first municipal president.
On September 10, 2000, San Jose del Monte was converted into a Component City of Bulacan by virtue of Republic Act No. 8797. It gained its lone congressional district on December 18, 2003.
On December 4, 2020, President Rodrigo Duterte issued Proclamation No. 1057 declaring San Jose del Monte as a highly urbanized city. However, in the plebiscite held on October 30, 2023, the people of Bulacan rejected the proclamation with 820,385 no votes against 620,707 yes votes.
San Jose Del Monte Economy, Business and Investment
Although considered a part of the built-up areas of Metro Manila, agriculture still plays a major role in the city’s economy. Major farm products are rice, mangoes, cassava, other rootcrops, vegetables, livestock, and poultry.
Manufactured goods from the city are processed meat, fruit juices, garments, gifts and toys, metal products, and marble.
The city is seen as the next frontier area for real estate developers. Once the construction of the light railway is finished, transportation to and from Metro Manila would be much easier and faster. The planned expressway from the city to Central and Northern Luzon will truly make the city a transportation hub and catapult its development to greater height.
