Meycauayan History

Meycauayan was founded on October 4, 1578 when Franciscan missionaries established the first church made of bamboo and nipa. Its territory then included the present towns of Bocaue, Obando, Marilao, Sta. Maria and Pandi as well as the present cities of San Jose del Monte and Valenzuela (formerly Polo).

The city participated actively in the Philippine Revolution of 1896 and many revolutionary leaders emerged from the city. Among them were Andres Pacheco, Ciriaco Contreras, Guillermo Contreras, Guillermo Bonque, and Liberato Exaltacion.

Meycauayan was converted into a city on December 10, 2006 when Republic Act 9356 was ratified in a plebiscite.

Economy, Business and Investment

Being adjacent to Metro Manila, Meycauayan became the recipient of the overflow of urbanization and industrialization. Several industrial estates have been put up in the city. Among the chief products of the city are jewelry, clothing, and other manufactured items.
