History
Tabuk was created as a municipality on June 16, 1950. It was made the capital of the then undivided Kalinga-Apayao Province. It remained as the capital of Kalinga even after the division of Kalinga and Apayao as separate provinces in 1995.
On June 23, 2007, Kalinga was converted into a city but its creation became official only in 2011 when the Supreme Court ruled with finality the constitutionality of the law that created it.
Economy, Business and Investment
Aside from being the capital of Kalinga, Tabuk is also the chief trading center of the province. However, its economy is primarily agricultural where rice, corn, coffee, vegetables, livestock and poultry are produced.
Manufacturing is limited to rice milling, hollow block making, furniture and handicraft production and repair, and bread making. The traditional weaving industry is being promoted by the local government.
Being a landlocked locality with no airport, Tabuk is accessible only by land transportation. It is traversed by roads coming from all adjacent provinces but if coming from Manila or Baguio City, the best route is through the province of Isabela.
