Hermenegildo ‘Dong’ Gualberto Biography

Hermenegildo Gualberto is a Filipino politician. He is currently serving as mayor of San Fernando city in La Union Province.

In the May 13, 2019 election, he ran for mayor as independent candidate and defeated Jose Maria Ortega, a scion of the powerful Ortega Dynasty.

On January 7, 2020, Dong Gualberto announced that he is stepping down as mayor after the Office of the Ombudsman imposed the penalty of dismissal against him. The order from the Ombudsman was based on the complaint-affidavit filed by Cadaclan Barangay Chair Samuel Jucar and 46 other barangay chairmen on January 28, 2019. He, however, denied any wrongdoing and vowed to elevate the case to a higher court.

On May 9, 2022, Mayor Dong Gualberto narrowly defeated incumbent Governor Pacoy Ortega of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) and Pepe Ortega of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP).
