Zamboanga Del Norte is a province in the western part of Mindanao Island in southern Philippines.

Zamboanga Del Norte History

During the early part of the American period, Zamboanga Del Norte was part of the Moro Province. In 1914, it was under the jurisdiction of the Department of Mindanao and Sulu. When this department was dissolved in 1920, the territory became part of Zamboanga province which covered the whole Zamboanga Peninsula with Zamboanga City as the capital. In 1942, the capital was moved to Dipolog City.

On June 6, 1952, Zamboanga province was divided into Zamboanga Del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur by virtue of Republic Act No. 711.

Economy of Zamboanga Del Norte

Zamboanga Del Norte is primarily an agricultural province. Its main products are rice, coconut, and fish. The processing of fish especially sardines has become a major source of livelihood among many families in the province. Tourism development is concentrated around the twin cities of Dipolog and Dapitan.
