Quote of the day #9

Power of loveThe love of power has been the moving force for most of the political as well as personal turmoils in the history of mankind. Let the power of LOVE overcome this sad aspect of our humanity.

The quote above came from James “Jimi” Marshall Hendrix, an American singer, songwriter and guitarist. He was born in Seattle, Washington on this day, November 27, in the year 1942. He is now considered one of the most influential electric guitarists and musicians in the history of music.

Jimi started playing the guitar at age 15. After briefly serving the military, he went to Tennessee where he played in music circuits for four years. His career took off in 1966 when he was introduced to Chas Chandler who became his manager. He and two others formed the band “the Jimi Hendrix Experience” and performed regularly in the United Kingdom where three of his songs topped the UK music chart. Their first single “Hey Joe” has become a classic song and some people even consider it as the best-known version of the rock standard.

In 1967, the band started performing in the US and the following year, their third album “Electric ladyland” reached number one in the United States.

Jimi met his tragic death on September 18, 1970 at aged 27 due to barbiturate-related asphyxia.
