King Yodfa The Great was the first king of Thailand under the reigning Chakri Dynasty. His complete name is Phra Phutthayotfa Chulalok also known as Rama I. He founded the Rattanakosin Kingdom in 1782 after King Taksin of the Thonburi Kingdom was deposed.
He was born on March 20, 1736 in the Ayutthaya Kingdom and died on 7 September 1809 at the age of 72. He ruled Siam for 27 years (1782 – 1809). In 1982, the Thai government awarded him the title “The Great”.
